For anyone aspiring to attend one of the Torbay Grammar schools the 11+ examination can be a daunting prospect.

There are some fantastic books available to supplement regular primary school lessons but many people feel that tutoring gives their child the best chance of getting the required results.

As an experienced secondary school teacher of mathematics I feel strongly that those entering the Grammar schools should not just be the ones who "jump the hurdle of the 11+" but that they should be better prepared for the level and pace of Grammar school life

Small Group Sessions -

Preston, Paignton, Galmpton and

Olchard (near Kingsteignton/Chudleigh)

The focus is on boosting children's confidence in a nurturing environment which encourages them to reach their full potential. Each session is an hour long and all resources and a snack are provided. Homework is set each week with individual feedback given.

Admissions Tests for Torbay Schools Entry:

Competition for Places

Each year there are more children sitting the 11+ than there are places available so there is a lot of competition for those places. The Grammars publish Admissions Policies for the following year's intake for Year 7 which include detail on:

The Planned Admission Numbers (known as PAN)

The timing and structure of the 11+ exams

The criteria for allocation of places

Parents and carers should become familiar with the admissions policies.  The number of places for Year 7 intake are shown below, together with links to the Grammars' Admissions Policies (click to open in a new tab).
